WELCOME TO FERGANA VALLEY!

The Fergana Valley — is a valley located among the mountains in Central Asia, one of the largest mountain ranges of Central Asia. It is surrounded by the Tien Shan Range from the north and the Gisar-Alai range from the south. It is mainly located in Uzbekistan, partly on the territory of the republics of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Most of it has the shape of a triangle extending to the northern slopes of the Turkestan and Alai ranges, surrounded from the northwest by the Kuram and Chatkal ranges, and from the northeast by the Ferghana Range. In the west (8-10 km wide) it connects with the Tashkent-Mirzachol swamp through the "Khojend Gate". Its length is 300 km, width is 60-120 km, the widest place is 170 km, the area is 22,000 km2. The height is 330 m in the west, 1000 m in the east. The general structure of the Fergana Valley is elliptical (almond-shaped) and expands from west to east. The surface of the Fergana Valley is made of alluvial and proluvial sedimentary rocks of the Quaternary system. In the Stone Age, the stream was winding, and in the Middle Stone Age it was covered with a thick layer of sandstone — silty deposits. In the Cretaceous period there was shallow water here. By the end of the Paleogene period, Batam became dry land. The mountain ranges around the valley began to rise sharply during the Alpine folding, but again eroded in the process of denudation. Continental sediments with a thickness of 300-400 meters overlap the marine sediments at the bottom of the valley. The Fergana Valley has always played an important role in the history and culture of Central Asia. The Fergana state - Davan has been mentioned in ancient Chinese chronicles since the end of the II century AD, and in the Middle Ages it was considered one of the advanced lands of Movarounnahr. In the XI century, Margilan was the largest city of the Fergana oasis, from where merchants distributed silk fabrics along the Great Silk Road to Egypt, Greece, Baghdad, Khorasan and Kashgar. Even today Margilon can be called the silk capital of Uzbekistan. Urban artisans weave homemade satin from dyed silk in the old-fashioned way and take it to the market. The small town of Rishtan is located 50 kilometers from Fergana. It is known as a city where pottery is developed. Residents of the city have been engaged in this craft since the IX century. The ceramics of the Rishtan potters are in many museums and private collections around the world. Kokand has long been considered the main city of the Fergana Valley. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kokand Khanate, a powerful state that ruled a significant part of the territory of modern Uzbekistan and neighboring countries
